War in the North Achievement Roadmap and Missables
A platform-aware completion roadmap for quest, difficulty, co-op, and historical missable achievement routes in the Legacy Edition campaign.
What is confirmed, and what is historical
Legacy Edition’s Steam listing includes achievements, but a complete official cross-platform trigger list was not found during this check. The roadmap below uses the old Xbox/PlayStation guides for route planning and labels their missables as historical leads, not guaranteed Legacy behavior. Verify the live achievement list on Steam, PlayStation, Xbox, or Switch before starting a completion run.
The safest first playthrough
1. Use one profile and record every hand-in
Finish the story on the lowest comfortable difficulty while keeping a small checklist for side quests, scrolls, Frodo’s conversation, The Captive, and the Eagle decision. The old achievement route describes a 15-quest milestone, so complete every available side quest rather than relying on the main story alone.
2. Clear the hub before each travel screen
Speak to every named NPC in Bree, Sarn Ford, Rivendell, and Nordinbad. This is the easiest way to protect quest achievements and prevents a missing dialogue flag from being mistaken for a platform glitch.
3. Keep two manual notes for missables
The old guides repeatedly call out four danger points:
- Friend of the Ring-bearer: speak with Frodo about the Ring in Rivendell.
- Friend of Woodland Realm: complete The Captive in the hidden Mirkwood Orc camp and speak with Glorhirin.
- The Lidless Eye: complete the seven-scroll Cult of the Lidless Eye chain and return to Elrond.
- Eagle Savior: historical guides associate this with the final Agandaur encounter and not summoning Beleram at the decisive moment.
The last condition is especially easy to misremember. Treat it as a deliberate test only after reading the current platform description; do not sacrifice a clean run on an unverified 2011 trigger.
Difficulty and replay planning
The original guide family describes a 47-achievement list, three difficulty runs, roughly 25–30 hours, and four missable routes. Those numbers are a historical planning baseline, not a current Legacy guarantee. The original manual also describes Easy/Normal, then Heroic and Legendary progression with characters and gear carrying forward. Check the live menu to see whether the Legacy Edition retains that ladder.
A safe plan is:
- Story/completion run: side quests, scrolls, collection counters, hubs, Frodo, The Captive, and the Eagle note.
- Difficulty run: carry the strongest three-role party into the next unlocked difficulty and test whether the platform unlock appears.
- Cleanup run: replay only the missing challenge, collection, or co-op condition after confirming the current achievement description.
Co-op and achievement visibility
Do not assume a guest earns every story or quest achievement. Make the host the profile that starts each quest, confirm the quest log, and let the guest join after the checkpoint settles. Xbox launch reports also describe achievement visibility changing over time. If the list is missing, restart the game and check the platform service status before repeating an entire chapter.
Current-edition evidence ledger
For each unlock, record platform, edition, patch, host/guest role, difficulty, quest state, and the exact trigger. A community report is useful evidence of a question; it is not proof that every platform shares the same flag. Keep the old route links in your notes and update this page when Aspyr publishes a complete achievement list or repeatable current-build tests become available.
